100 Year Celebration
Dallas Love Field, named after fallen aviator Lt. Moss Lee Love, was first established on Oct. 19, 1917. It originally served as a base for flight training for the United States Army Air Service before becoming a part of the City of Dallas. The City of Dallas dedicated the airport as its municipal airport in September 1927, during a visit to the city by Charles Lindbergh. Since then, Dallas Love Field has been a continuously growing entity for the City of Dallas. In fact, on Nov. 22, 1963, Lyndon B. Johnson was sworn in as President of the United States aboard Air Force One, the westernmost Presidential swearing- in ceremony. In 2009, the Love Field Modernization Program began the $500 million renovation project to create the experience you see today: a new 20- gate concourse, ticketing hall, and baggage claim.
On Thursday, Oct. 19, 2017, Dallas Love Field turned 100 and hosted a celebration honoring all of the accomplishments that have occurred over the last 100 years. The momentous event was held in Dallas Love Field’s Love Landing for staff, tenants, partners, and general public to attend. Joining the celebration were Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson, Congressman Pete Sessions, State Representative Helen Giddings, members of the Dallas City Council, and Dallas City Manager, T.C. Broadnax. Individuals in attendance were able to watch the ceremony, explore the 100 year time capsule, partake in photo booths inside the terminal and baggage claim, and enjoy delicious cake and cupcakes. Thank you to our Love Field Centennial Celebration Committee for making this past year memorable and honoring 100 years of “Service First” to our community.
